Jo Beth Payne
(November 14, 1949 - November 12, 2014)

Jo Beth Payne (nee Wade) passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 12, 2014, at her home in Katy, Texas, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 64 years old.

She was born in Nacogdoches, Texas, on November 14, 1949. She spent her early childhood in Sweeney, Texas, and her teen years in Jasper, Texas. She graduated from Jasper High School in 1967. Jo Beth lived much of her life in Lafayette, Louisiana. She was a graduate of the University of Southwestern Louisiana and worked as a teacher for the Lafayette Parish School System. She was a devoted wife, mother of four, and grandmother of six, who loved nothing more than making a warm, happy home for her family. She spent her final years of her life with her beloved husband in Katy, Texas, raising their youngest daughter and caring for their grandchildren. Jo Beth lived a life of faith and grace, and was an inspiration to all who knew her. She was a special friend to many.

She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Everette Ray “Skipper” Payne, Jr.; mother and stepfather, Nina and Tommie Steptoe; mother-in-law, Nola Payne; sister, Patsy Wade Loftin; brother, James William Wade, Jr.; daughter, Elizabeth Payne Peterson and husband Troy; daughter, Allison Payne Short and husband Sam; daughter, Taylor Payne; and her six grandchildren, Noah Cormier, Cade Payne, Grady Payne, Samuel Short, June Peterson, and Skipper Leigh Peterson. She was preceded in death by her father, James William Wade; and her son, Ryan Everette Payne.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 14, 2014, at the First United Methodist Church, in Katy, where funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Marlin Fenn and Rev. Pamela Cline officiating. A graveside service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Friday at Sanders Cemetery in Jasper, Texas, with Rev. Thomas V. Foster officiating.
