Louise H. Robbins, 88, Smartville Road, R.D. 1, a former teacher, died Wednesday morning at home following a short illness.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Summerville Funeral Home, Sandy Creek, with the Rev. Janet Gibbs, pastor of the Sandy Creek United Methodist Church, officiating. Spring burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the Sandy Creek United Methodist Church or the Lacona Fire Department.
Surviving are two sons, Stanley, Adams Center, and Hollis, Manlius; a daughter, Mrs. Jean Jordanek, Ithaca; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Two brothers, Lawrence and D.J. Hollis, died before her.
Born at the Hollis family homestead on Jan. 20, 1901, daughter of DeForest and Angie Widrig Hollis, she was graduated in 1918 from Sandy Creek Central School, and in 1922 from Syracuse University, where she obtained a master's degree in teaching. She taught for many years at rural schools in the Town of Sandy Creek, and retired from the Mannsville-Manor School. She then taught part-time for a few years.
She married Harvey D. Robbins on June 15, 1929, at the Hollis homestead, where the couple then made their home. Mrs. Robbins lived all her life at the family home on the Smartville Road. Mr. Robbins operated the farm, and was also employed as a Nationwide Insurance agent, retiring in 1969. He died June 27, 1975, at the age of 70.
Mrs. Robbins was a 77-year member of the Sandy Creek United Methodist Church, and of the church Care Group. She was a 50-year member of the Outlook Club, and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
