Mae E. Burkhard, 85, Creekside Apartments, 6216 Route 11, died Saturday at her home.
Mrs. Burkhard and her husband, Niles G. "Burky," owned and operated Burky's Groceteria from 1951 to 1976.
She was a member of the auxiliaries of Pulaski American Legion and Cable Trail Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8534, Lacona, and of Lowville Rebekah Lodge.
Born July 26, 1918, in Massena, daughter of Harlow and Marjorie Dunkleburg Woods, she graduated in 1937 from DeKalb High School.
She married Mr. Burkhard on Nov. 25, 1937, at the DeKalb Junction Methodist parsonage. They lived in DeKalb and Lowville before moving to Sandy Creek in 1951. He died Nov. 8, 1998.
Surviving are two daughters and their husbands, Patricia and Ralph Miller, Mannsville, and Nileene and Earl Wart, Geneva; 10 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
A son, John H., died in an auto accident Nov. 26, 1985. Two brothers, Everett and Robert Woods, also died before her.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Woodlawn Cemetery with the Rev. Wayne Grow, pastor of Sandy Creek United Methodist Church, officiating.
