Richard W. Bond, 88, of 4600 Southwood Heights Drive, Syracuse, a former Sandy Creek resident, died Wednesday at Iroquois Nursing Home, Syracuse.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Fairchild & Meech DeWitt Chapel, DeWitt, with the Rev. Edwin F. Taylor officiating. Burial will be in Sandy Creek Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours and donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
Surviving are two daughters, Nancy K. Bond, Fayetteville, and Cynthia B. Bates, Hammondsport; a sister, Emily Walker, Norwich; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Bond was born Aug. 4, 1906, in Clyde, a son of Mr. and Mrs. E.J. Bond.
He married Muriel Gladys Knowlton on July 20, 1933, with the Rev. Walter S. Dobbie, pastor of the First Methodist Episcopal church, officiating. Mrs. Bond died in 1968.
Mr. Bond resided for most of his life in the Sandy Creek/Lacona area before moving to Syracuse in 1989.
Mr. Bond was a graduate of Rider College, Trenton, N.J. and he retired in 1966 as a teacher with Sandy Creek Central schools. He taught previously at schools in East Hampton and Norwich.
He was a member of Sandy Creek Methodist Church and the New York State Teachers Association. He was a former member of the Sandy creek Volunteer Fire Department and treasurer for the village of Sandy Creek from 1952 to 1955.
