Newspaper Obituary - April 10, 1946 Sandy Creek News - Last Rites Held for Guy Bartlett - Guy Paul Bartlett, 68, resident of this community for more than thirty years, died at his home on Railroad street Sunday morning, April 7, 1946 following an illness of several weeks. Funeral services were held at the home on Wednesday afternoon, the Rev. Herbert Harrison officiating. Interment was in Woodlawn cemetery, Sandy Creek. Mr. Bartlett was born at Eau Claire, Wisconsin on July 3, 1877, the youngest of eleven children born to Milton Duane and Mary Lavina Brewster Bartlett. He is a descendant of Elder William Brewster, spiritual teacher of the Pilgrim fathers. A later generation settled Brewster's settlement in this town of Ellisburg where his mother was born. Mr. Bartlett's early life was spent in Eau Claire and Buffalo where he received his education. His father Milton D. Bartlett at the age of 29 served as state senator in Wisconsin one year, enlisting for duty in the Civil War the following year. He served as district judge and was prominent in the legal profession and political circles. As a young man, Guy P. Bartlett studied law in the office of Norris Mory, Buffalo lawyer, where he was associated with John Lord O'Brien. He later became a successful salesman, being associated over a long period with the W. W. Kimball Co. Mr. Bartlett was a member of Sandy Creek Lodge No. 564 F. & A. M. He was a devoted son and brother, enjoying the associations of the family circle. Surviving are two sisters, Maud E. Bartlett of Sandy Creek; Mrs. F. B. Griffith of Aptos, Calif., a niece, Mrs. Edward Griffy of Houston, Texas who is the daughter of the late Earle Brewster Bartlett, formerly vice president of the W. W. Kimball Co., Chicago, Ill.
