Lillian E. Barney, 95, of 9128 Salisbury St., died at 5:45 a.m. Saturday at Community-General Hospital, Syracuse, after a short illness.
A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Monday at the Sandy Creek United Methodist Church with the Rev. Lorraine Zimmerman, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in the spring.
There will be no calling hours. Contributions may be made to the Sandy Creek United Methodist Church. Arrangements are with the Summerville Funeral Home.
Born Sept. 16, 1898, in Guthrie Center, Iowa, daughter of Isaac and Clara Nesselroad Mann, she graduated from high school in Guthrie Center and graduated from Grinnell (Iowa) College in 1921.
She was a mathematics teacher in Hampton, Ohio, for 29 years, moving to Sandy Creek in 1950. She married Fayette C. Barney in 1950. Mr. Barney, retired associate editor of Holstein World magazine, died Dec. 10, 1971.
Mrs. Barney was chairwoman of the Sandy Creek chapter of the American Red Cross in 1960. She received a certificate of appreciation from the Red Cross in 1969 and continued to do volunteer work at local blood banks.
She was a member, past president, past secretary and current vice president of the Sandy Creek-Orwell Senior Citizens organization, a member of the Retired Senior Volunteers Program and director of its county council.
Mrs. Barney was a member of the former Fortnightly Club. She was also a member of Lake Ontario Chapter 124 of the Order of the Eastern Star, serving as chaplain since 1963.
She was a member of the Sandy Creek United Methodist Church, a past president of the United Methodist Women and a former Sunday School teacher. She did volunteer work with the Tug Hill Tourathon, and Monday through Friday each week worked as a volunteer at the senior citizens nutrition site as floor superintendent, as well as serving as chaplain.
Mrs. Barney was honored with the DeWitt Clinton Award in 1992.
