L. E. "Gene" Grimes, 67, of Midland, died on Saturday, April 1, 2006, in a Snyder hospital. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, April 6, 2006 at St Nicholas Episcopal Church in Midland with Father Frank Swindle, officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday, April 5, 2006 from 6:30 until 7:30 PM at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Chapel in Midland.
Gene was born on November 8, 1938, in Watonga, Oklahoma and married Kathleen Chase on June 10, 1972 in Midland.
Gene was very involved with the Petroleum Museum, to which he donated the oil rig. He was a member of the American Society of Professional Engineers and the International Association of Drilling Contractors.
Gene was a member of the Midland Naturalist Society. He was also a member and leader of the Texas Farm Bureau, Kiwanis and Alcoholics Anonymous. He was a licensed pilot and a rancher. Gene served in the National Guard. He was a member of St. Nicholas Episcopal Church.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy of Midland; a son, Nickey Grimes of Midland; a son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Debbie Grimes of Columbia, Missouri; one daughter and son-in-law, Angela and Don Seales of Midland; his father, Philip Grimes of Columbia, Missouri; one brother, Grant Grimes of Atlanta, Georgia; several grandchildren; Sarah Gene, Preston and Anthony Del Rio, and Stephanie and Wesley Seales of Midland; Aaron and Allison Grimes of Havelock, North Carolina; Tammie Stuart of Greenville, Texas; Tiffany Grimes of Pope AFB in North Carolina; and Valerie and Kimberly Grimes of Columbia, Missouri; and six great grandchildren.
Gene was preceded in death by his mother, Jean Grimes and one brother, Gary Grimes.
The family suggests that memorials be made to St. Nicholas Episcopal Church, 4000 W. Loop 250 N, Midland, TX, 79707 or to the 710 Club of Alcoholics Anonymous, 710 Ohio, Midland, TX, 79701.
