Peter was temporarily buried near Meucon, in northwestern France (see attached cards). His final resting place in Chicago was discovered in 2022 by Suzanne Nault Whalen.

SOUTH BEND TROOPS ARRIVE IN NEW YORK
Headquarters company, 137th field artillery, recruited in South Bend was
among the units which reached New York Monday on the transport George
Washington. ...
The only member of the headquarters company who did not return with
the command was Private Peter Daniels, aged 25, who died at Camp DeMencon[sic, de Meucon], France on Dec. 11 as a result of an illness with pneumonia.

Born July 4, 1895 in Russia. Came to U.S. (exact date unknown) and was employed in a restaurant, South Bend, Ind., when he enlisted in U.S. Regular Army, September 9, 1917. Embarked for overseas October 6, 1918. Assigned to Headquarters Company, 3rd Infantry. Transferred to Headquarters Company, 137th Field Artillery. Died of pneumonia December 11, 1918, France. (Burial place unknown.)
