The present pastor of the church at Dover, N. H., Walter S. Bezanson, was born September 20, 1875, in Grafton, Kings County, Nova Scotia. When he was quite young the family removed to the States and took up residence in the city of Somerville, Mass.
The subject of this sketch was converted when but fourteen years of age. He was educated in the schools of Somerville, later attending an academy at Concord, N. H., and still later was under the instruction of William H. Mitchell. He preached his first sermon when sixteen years of age in Everett, Mass. After preaching for various churches, he was ordained at the age of eighteen years, and commenced his first pastorate at East Douglass [sic], Mass., where he remained two years.
Later, after a period of evangelistic work, he became pastor at Newburyport, Mass., from whence he went to Brockton, Mass., remaining for several years. Later he received a call to the church at Lawrence, Mass., where he rendered a specially valuable service in raising a large debt which had been resting on the church for several years. In 1906, he commenced his pastorate with the church at Bristol, Vt., remaining until June, 1909. His present pastorate with the Dover Church commenced with July, 1909, and has proved one of the most successful of his several pastorates. Under his ministry, the church has passed through a stirring revival experience. Over twenty have been baptized, a large number have been added to the membership, and the congregations have been largely increased.
