Life Story for Damon York
Damon attended Anderson High School and later entered the workforce, supporting the war effort as a civilian prior to joining the United States Army. He worked at the Guide Lamp factory in Anderson which had been converted from making automobile headlights to manufacturing machine guns. He was soon thereafter drafted into the Army, where he proudly served for 30 months in the European Theater Operation of World War II. Damon and his company served in infantry operations in North Africa, Italy, and Southern France until before the war finally came to an end and he was able to return home to Indiana to marry his sweetheart, start a family, and begin a long and successful career with Anaconda Wire & Cable Company, also in Anderson.

Throughout his adult life, Damon served his community well, both in Anderson and later, in Long Beach, California; He served as PTA President, Cub Scoutmaster, Little League Baseball Coach, and Baptist Deacon, on numerous occasions over the years.

A loving son, devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Damon is survived by his wife, of 14 years, Hazel York of Hemet, CA; sons, John York, Tom York, Jim York, Dave Brinduse, and daughter, Janie (Brinduse) DeKraai. Damon’s hallmark as a person was his warm and engaging demeanor, infectious smile, and genuine, loving heart. He was proof that nice guys finish FIRST. He will be missed, but never forgotten.
