Drusilla Frances Gasson, daughter of Thomas Edmund and Sarah Frances Gasson, was born April 2, 1867, near Carthage, in Hancock County, Illinois, and passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Smith, last Friday,January 13, 1939, at the age of 71 years, 9 months and 11 days. She was the eldest of eight children. When she was two years old she came with her parents to Iowa in a covered wagon and they settled as pioneers on a farm eight miles southwest of Stanton where she grew to womanhood. On February 26, 1895, she was united in marriage to Nels P Cronwall. To this union five children were born. They resided on a farm in Page county for five years, then moved to a farm south of Nodaway in Adams county where they lived until Mrs. Cronwall's failing health caused them to retire from the farm and move into Nodaway. In early life she united with the Methodist church in which she took an active part. She served as organist at Crammer Chapel for a number of years. After moving to Adams County she placed her membership in the Nodaway Methodist church where she was an active member until she became an invalid about 20 years ago. The last year and a half she had been cared for in the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Smith of Villisca.
Besides her husband she leaves tomourn her loss four daughters and one son and their families; Mrs. Marie Smith of Villisca; Mrs. Lucille Larson, Stockton, California; Mrs. Glennola Stanton of Des Moines; Mrs. Allie Crussel of the Nodaway community and Leslie of Emerson, Iowa; fourteen grandchildren, one great grandchild; also five sisters, two brothers, one aged aunt, Mrs. Sophia Everhart of Caney, Kansas, and a host of other relatives and friends. Mrs. Cronwall was always patient, even in her afflication. She was ready to live also in her tomorrow. She was neither partial nor selfish and was always thoughtful to others.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Villisca, held by Rev. E. B. Stewart of Nodaway, assisted by Dr. W. J. Fowler of Villisca. Music was furnished by a mixed quartette of Villisca, Mrs. Albert Davis, Mrs. Cy Underwood, Roy B. Means and Harold Notsyke, who sang"The Old Rugged Cross", "Have Thine Own Way Lord" and " Jesus Lover of My Soul". The accompaniment was played by Mrs. H. A. Eno. Pall bearers were neighbors and friends at Nodaway, Howard and Fred Shipley, Glenn and Arthur Windom, William Orme and Roy Northup. Burial was made in the Stanton Cemetery.
