Timothy, 60, of Pennfield Township, Battle Creek, MI passed away on Monday, November 10, 2014 at his home.

It would be hard to meet someone who touched more lives than Tim May, who passed away suddenly. He was larger than life and never met a person he didn't consider a friend.

Tim spent his life caring for his family, his staff, his students, his athletes, his friends, and his community. He was a consummate story teller who turned everyday experiences into hilarious stories.

Tim was born to Roger and Annie May, who survive. In August of 1982 Tim married the love of his life, Randi Kraft May. Together they raised their two sons, Travis (Amanda) and Tom (Gabrielle). Tim was a loving grandfather to Charlie, and was looking forward to the births of two more grandchildren in the spring. He is also survived by his twin brother Ted (Margaret) and other siblings; Tony (Ann), Terry, Terese (Ron) McInnis, Torry Gekle, and Mary. Survivors also include his mother-in-law Jean Kraft, sister-in-law Julie (Vernon) Petty, brother-in-law David (Mary) Kraft as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Tim leaves behind many, many dear friends whom he considered family.

He was preceded in death by his sister Tina, father-in-law Lloyd C. Kraft, and sister-in-law Nancy Kraft.

Tim was a phenomenal athlete who graduated from Lansing Eastern High School, where he was an all-state basketball and baseball player. As a baseball scholarship recipient, Tim graduated from Western Michigan University. He later earned a Masters degree from Michigan State University. Tim was inducted into the Lansing Eastern High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2010 for his accomplishments in basketball, baseball, and golf. He was also elected to the Battle Creek Area Amateur Sports Association & Michigan Amateur Baseball Association Wall of Fame in 2009. He was an avid sportsman; fishing and golf were his passions.

Tim was employed by the Lansing Department of Parks and Recreation before accepting a teaching position with Battle Creek Public Schools in 1986. He spent the majority of his career teaching in the Battle Creek Public Schools where he applied his magic touch to every team he coached, from girls' basketball to baseball to junior high football. He also coached his sons' baseball teams at Pennfield High School where they reached the State semi-finals. Most recently, Tim held the position of principal at St. Philip Catholic Central High School where he embraced "the best job he ever had." He dearly loved and respected his wonderful staff and students.

His gift for helping others extended beyond education and athletics and into the community. Tim was involved in many service organizations and volunteer activities including the Kalamazoo Chapter of Trout Unlimited and St. Philip Catholic Church.

A deep point of pride for Tim was initiating the local chapter of Project Healing Waters at the Battle Creek VA Center. This enabled him to teach hundreds of veterans the art of fly fishing as well as organizing many fishing trips across the state.

Tim will be remembered for his love, compassion, generosity and his many humble acts of kindness toward others. His spirited humor and his "get 'er done" work ethic will never be forgotten. He will be greatly missed.

Memorials may go to Project Healing Waters, Battle Creek Area Catholic Schools and St. Philip Catholic Church.

A vigil service took Friday, November 14, 2014 at St. Philip Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial was Saturday, November 15, 2014 at the church.

Arrangements are from Shaw Funeral Home.
