Fay Irene Canup of Royse City recognized the need for priorities, her daughter said. "She always said church comes first and then family, then everything else falls into place," said Shirley Magness of Royse City. Mrs. Canup, 85, died of lung cancer Sept. 17 at the Rowlett nursing home where she had been living since July. Services were held Sept. 19 at First United Methodist Church of Royse City, where Mrs. Canup had been a member since 1925. "She was always a caregiver. She enjoyed helping people and took care of my grandparents for several years," Mrs. Magness said. "She also took care of her brother when he was ill and took care of my daughter. Whenever someone needed something, she was there." Mrs. Canup was a homemaker most of her life but worked part time as a seamstress in the 1950s. She spent her free time working in her yard. Other survivors include her husband, Joe Bailey Canup, who moved from Royse City to the Rowlett nursing home along with his wife; and a granddaughter.
