James Aberdeen McCarroll "Jim" Stafford was born on March 12, 1898 in Marysville, New Brunsick, Canada to John Aberdeen and Mary Elizabeth (McCarroll) Stafford.

On May 27, 1918, James enlisted in the Canadian Expeditionary Force and was assigned to the Canadian Engineer Corps. He attained the rank of Sapper and was discharged on November 7, 1919.

After coming home, he married Blanche Rodgerson in Mexico, Maine. The couple had one child named James Albert Stafford.

James worked as a contractor and resided at 6 Reed St, Mexico, Maine until his death at the Rumford Community Hospital. He had lived in Mexico for 50 years. James died on November 6, 1965 in Rumford, Maine.

He was survived by his wife; son, Captain James Albert Stafford of Rome, New York; four sisters: Mrs. Marion Mills and Mrs. Philicia Ellis both of Norwich, Connecticut, Mrs. Mary Calpitts (or Colpitts) of St John, New Brunswick, and Mrs. Christine Hathaway of Plaster Rock, New Brunswick; and three grandchildren.
