Ira Thomas Payne, 61, of Oneida, passed away August 7, 2006, in Garland, Texas. Born in Oneida, October 2, 1944, he was preceded in death by his father, Estell Payne. He was a wonderful husband, a great daddy, and a great papaw. He was a big Nascar fan of Dale Earnhardt, Sr. and Dale Earnhardt, Jr.; was a member of Black Oak Baptist Church, and loved his occupation of truck driving. He is survived by his wife, Carol Davis Payne; one son, Scott Payne and wife, Cindy, of Nashville; two daughters: Tracey Payne and Kelly Payne, both of Oneida; his mother, Susie Owens Payne of Oneida; three grandchildren: Chelsea, Rachel, and Jaden; two brothers: Willard Payne and wife, Carol, of Indianapolis, Ind., and Manford Payne and wife, Sue of Oneida; two sisters: Sue Thompson and husband, James, of Oneida, and Mildred Dellarco and husband, Hank, of Fla.; several nieces and nephews, and many other relatives. Funeral service was conducted August 11, in the chapel of Four Oaks Funeral Home of Oneida, with Bro. Lawrence "Bob" Hill and Bro. Kevin Terry officiating. Graveside service was conducted August 12, at Marcum-Kidd Cemetery in Oneida. Four Oaks Funeral Home of Oneida had charge of arrangements. (Source: The Independent Herald, 17 Aug 2006, pA10)
