Born to Burrell Howell (1820-after 1880) of Georgia & Mary Ann Reid Howell (1829-after 1880) of Mississippi. Both Burrell & Mary Ann Howell were living in Pike County, MS, from 1850-1880, as shown on the census. They are not the Burrell & Mary Ann Howell buried in Alabama at Memorial# 35366758.

Lurana married Asa Denson Thornhill (1844-1927) in 1870, per the 1900 census. Asa had first married Lurana's older sister, Mary Howell, about 1867. Following Mary's untimely death, Asa married Lurana, who helped raise her sister's daughter.
