Nick was born Dec. 14, 1923, in Youngstown, a son of the late Evan and Anna Capperes, and was a lifelong area resident.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving his country during World War II, and was a retired firefighter for the City of Youngstown Fire Department, serving the community for 32 years.
Mr. Cooper was also the owner/operator of the AMA Club on Steel Street in Youngstown for many years, and was the co-owner of the former Spring Lakes Golf Course in Lake Milton (now The Olde Dutch Mill) for 27 years.
Nick was a member of Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Youngstown. He was an avid sports enthusiast and was inducted into the Baseball Old-Timers Hall of Fame for his outstanding baseball talent.
His beloved wife of 51 years, Ann M. Scavina Cooper, whom he married May 26, 1951, passed away Jan. 28, 2003.
Nick leaves five children, Patsy Tamburino of Youngstown, Linda Urbanowicz of Youngstown, Nick (Karen) Cooper of Canfield, Brenda Adair of Youngstown, who was his caregiver and with whom he shared his home, and Lisa (Tom) Scanlon of Youngstown; nine grandchildren, Michelle (Eric), Tim, Jill, Scott, Mario, Nicholas, Tom, Jim, and Amy; and three great-grandchildren, Cooper, Nolan, and Carter.
Besides his wife, a daughter, Michele Cooper; three brothers, Mitch Capperes, Pete Cooper, and Mike Capperes; a sister, Catherine Serbin; and a son-in-law, Colin Urbanowicz, are deceased.
Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, where Nick will be laid to rest next to his wife.
