Professional Basketball Player. For six seasons (1949 to 1954 and 1955 to 1956), he played at the small forward and shooting guard positions in the National Basketball Association with the New York Knicks. Born Ernest Maurice Vandeweghe, Jr., he was raised in Oceanside, New York and played collegiate basketball at Colgate University. Selected by the Knicks during the 3rd round of the 1949 BAA Draft, he went on to play in 224 regular season NBA games. He was a contributor to New York's reaching of the NBA Finals in 1951, 1952 and 1953. During this period, he studied Medicine at Columbia University and specialized in Pediatrics following his retirement from basketball. In addition, he served as team physician for the Los Angeles Lakers. He was married to the former "Miss America," Colleen Kay Hutchins until her death in 2010
