Hospitalman Aaron A. Kent of Portland, Oregon, died from an improvised explosive device while conducting combat operations near Fallujah, Iraq. He was a graduate of Roosevelt High School, an athletic, upbeat young man who joined the Navy as a way to learn and pursue a medical career. He was a wrestler for the Peninsula Wrestling Club and played high school football. He also liked listening to music, shooting pool and watching professional sports and was a big fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers. He joined the Navy in February 2002. His father, Gary Kent, and his mother, Lara Byrns. He was the 49th person with close ties to Oregon to die in Iraq or Afghanistan. He was 28.
