Mrs. A. L. CARTER, pioneer resident of Ochiltree County passed away at her home in Perryton Monday morning, Dec. 28, 1942. She had been in poor health for some time having had several heart attacks but apparently was much improved when another heart attack proved fatal.
Maude BLANSIT was born, Feb. 22, 1870, Hamilton County, Texas. She died, Dec. 29, 1942, Perryton, at the age of 72 years, 11 months and 22 days. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John BLANSIT, pioneer Texans.
She married Alfred LaFayette CARTER, July 4, 1887. To this union seven sons and five daughters were born. The husband, three sons and one daughter preceding her in death. The oldest son, Blansit CARTER passed away May 5, 1941.
Surviving children are: A. L. CARTER Jr., Perryton; Monroe CARTER, Long Beach, Calif.; James McKinney CARTER, San Angelo, Texas; Mrs. S. L. BRILLHART, Perryton; Mrs. Howard HOLT, Perryton; Mrs. Dewey R. ALLEN, Perryton; Mrs. Walter R. HOLLAND, Amarillo; nineteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Mrs. CARTER moved with her husband and family to Ochiltree county in July, 1912, where they settled and improved a farm three miles north of Ochiltree. She lived at the farm home until after the death of her husband, March 19, 1937.
Mrs. CARTER was a fine Christian woman having joined the Presbyterian church at the age of eight years and later transferring her membership to the Methodist church. She was loved by those associated with her and known for her many generous acts. The kindness of her nature is well expressed by the love that she had for her flowers, which were her most dear to her next to her loved ones and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Baptist Church, this afternoon, Thursday, 3 o’clock, with Rev. Wm. Fisher and Rev. S. R. McClung officiating. Musical selections will be given by Mrs. Carl ELLIS, Mrs. L. T. TUCKER, Mrs. Rufus BOLERJACK, Mrs. Wm. FOGLESONG, Irvin BUCHANAN, Rufus BOLERJACK, Virgil CASTLE and A. K. WOOTEN.
Active pall bearers are C. B. ROGERS, Judge Jack ALLEN, R. B. ORRILL, Horace LACKEY, Ben H. PECKENPAUGH, and J. F. BRAY.
