Alice M. Bacon, 97, formerly of 8053 Franklin St., died at 11:30 p.m. Friday in the Madonna Home, Watertown, where she had been a resident for three weeks.
The funeral will be 1 p.m. Tuesday in Sandy Creek Baptist Church with Jim Horth, lay pastor, officiating. Spring burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Summerville Funeral Home, with a Grange service at 3:30 p.m. and an Order of the Eastern Star service at 8:30 p.m. Contributions may be made to the Sandy Creek Baptist Church, the Sandy Creek Grange or the Order of the Eastern Star.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Frank (Jean) Roberts, Raleigh, N.C.; nine grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
A son, Ralph T., died on Feb. 12.
Born on April 30, 1896, in Sandy Creek, a daughter of Alvin and Harriett Near Thompson, she married George H. Bacon on March 6, 1913, in Watertown, with the Rev. Duane Johnson officiating.
Mr. and Mrs. Bacon lived in Antwerp, then in Star Lake for 11 years, and then in Gouverneur for three years. They moved to Sandy Creek in 1936. Mr. Bacon, a self-employed carpenter, died on Dec. 31, 1963.
Mrs. Bacon was employed by the former Corse Press for 37 years, retiring in 1962.
She was an accomplished pianist and organist. She was a member and organist for more than 60 years at the Sandy Creek Baptist Church, and was a member and musician of Sandy Creek Grange 127.
Mrs. Bacon also was a member of the Pomona and State Grange, and a member, musician and past matron of Lake Ontario Chapter 124, Order of the Eastern Star. She was grand representative to the state of Alabama Order of the Eastern Star, State of New York, from 1969 to 1971.
She was a member of the Order of the Amaranth Sterling Court in Watertown, and a member and musician of the Cable Trail Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 85344 Auxiliary in Lacona. She also was a member of the Sandy Creek-Orwell Senior Citizens and its kitchen band, and was a member of the Senior Citizens Bowling League.
