She was a noted writer of fairy tales.
———-
She was the last and most gifted daughter of Bettina Brentano and Achim von Arnim. Her father died when she was three, so she was raised by her mother, who also entrusted her to excellent tutors. At the age of twenty she published a collection of fairy tales inspired by Clemens Brentano and E. T. A. Hoffmann. Still a teenager, in 1840 she had already met the one who would become her husband: Herman Grimm, son of Wilhelm. However, in the following years she had a long relationship with the famous violinist Joseph Joachim. This created a painful love affair to three, which only ended when she married Herman in 1859. In addition to several books of fairy tales she also published four volumes of dramatic works. Like her mother, she was very close friend with Robert and Clara Schumann. In 1888 she went to Rome in the hope of treating her heart disease. But on the way back to Germany she died in Florence and was buried there.
