Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, April 28, 1921 Sandy Creek News - Mrs. Emma Mix Austin - Mrs. Emma Mix Austin, wife of Charles Austin of Sandy Creek died Tuesday morning at 4:45 at the family home on the State road, north of this village, following a long illness, aged 60 years. The funeral will be held from the residence at two, Thursday afternoon. Interment will be in Woodlawn cemetery. Mrs. Austin was born April 6, 1861, near Black River, N.Y. She had spent her early life in Black River, and later resided for many years in Watertown. She was employed as cook in the Leray hotel for a number of years and had worked as cook in restaurants and in private families in that city. In all she made her home there about 20 years. She left about 14 years ago and shortly after was married to Charles Austin. They resided for a time, following the marriage in Hermon, St. Lawrence county and during the past six or seven years had made their home in Sandy Creek, having bought the Canough farm and its commodious home. Surviving besides her husband, are a step daughter, Fern, residing in Ogdensburg and a stepson, Albert Austin of Sandy Creek, and two brothers, George Mix of Black River and Stephen S. Mix of Watertown. The funeral was largely attended this afternoon, Dr. W. J. Hart officiating. The family has the sympathy of a large circle of friends.
