Funeral services for Harry G. Taft, 78, were held at the Watson Funeral Home in East Jordan Tuesday, February 23, at 2 p.m., the Rev. Chandler Benton of the Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial was in Sunset Hill Cemetery. A retired educator, Mr. Taft died unexpectedly Saturday at his home in Charlevoix where he and Mrs. Taft were spending the winter. Born In Lansing March 5, 1892, Mr. Taft was a graduate of Michigan Agricultural College, now Michigan State University, and received his M.A. from the University of Michigan. He was a teacher and school superintendent in several southern Michigan communities, including Hesperia where he was superintendent at the time of his retirement in 1965. He was a captain in the U.S. Army during World War I. Mr. Taft belonged to the Michigan Education Association, the National Education Association and the Presbyterian Church in East Jordan. He had been a summer resident of Eveline Orchards on Lake Charlevoix for the past 60 years. He is survived by his widow, the former Bertha Wagener, whom he married at Harbor Beach in 1918; a son, Robert, of Phoenix, Arizona; three grandchildren; a brother, Howard Taft of East Jordan and three sisters, Mrs. Edward J. Kunze of Wheaton, Illinois, Mrs. E. C. Lindeman of New York City and Mrs. John Klaver of East Jordan.
