Christopher K. Mackey

Christopher "Chris" K. Mackey, age 54, of Elwood, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, November 5, 2014.

He is survived by his loving wife and high school sweetheart of 34 years, Carol Mackey (nee Keigher); his children, Brent (Amy) Mackey of Minooka, Sarah (Tim) Burfield of CA, and Jennifer (Dan) Rogala of Naperville; his grandchildren, Emma, Jack, Molly, Mack, and Reagan; his brothers and sisters, Jim (Joyce) Mackey, Annette (Paul) Buss, Sandy Smith, Mike (Sandy) Mackey, George (Paula) Mackey, Kurt (Kate) Mackey, Paul (Patti) Mackey, and Mark (Kristine) Mackey; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Mike (Debbie) Keigher, Jane (Ed) O'Connor, Kevin (Julie) Keigher, Suzanne (Dave) Mantia, and Mike (Kathleen-deceased) Peters; several nieces and nephews; and his faithful canine companions, Sadie and Snickers.

Preceded in death by his parents, George and Sylvia (nee Budde) Mackey; his brother, Tom; and his sisters, Jan and Diane.

Chris was born in Joliet and was raised in Elwood. He attended St. John the Baptist Grade School, Joliet Catholic High School, Class of 1978, and Milikin University.

Chris was a member of the Plumbers Union Local 422, the Manhattan Plumbing Inspector for many years and was employed by C. R. Leonard Plumbing and Heating for the past 8 years.

When Chris wasn't working in his trade, he could be found farming or doing just about anything to put in a hard day's work. Above all, Chris was a family man. Spending time with his family was his greatest joy and becoming a father and grandfather among his most heartfelt moments.

Funeral service for Christopher will be 9:30 a.m., Monday, November 10, 2014, from Forsythe Funeral Home in procession to St. Joseph Church, 235 West North Street, Manhattan, for 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial. Visitation will be Sunday, from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m., at the funeral home. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery, Manhattan.

The family has requested for family and friends to take a moment and write down some of your most fond memories of Chris, bring them to the funeral home and place them in a memory box for them to share with each other and pass on to his grandchildren.
