Born in North Carolina about 1786, eventually moved to the Mississippi Territory and settled in what is now Conecuh County, Alabama.
Historical Notes:

Absalom Reid signed the 1815 Petition to the U.S. Congress to get relief for the payments of interest on public lands they had purchased in the Mississippi Territory. The War of 1812 had disrupted their markets and the Indian attacks had done harm to their land. The U.S. Militia had also taken part of their crops as they passed through the area in defending the territory from British invasion.

Absalom Reid signed the Petition to the U.S. Congress in 1817 to request that the new State of Mississippi not be allowed to change the border between the State of Mississippi and Alabama territory.

About 1841 sold his holdings in Alabama (Conecuh, Wilcox and Monroe Counties) and purchased land in Jasper County, Mississippi. According to his Obituary published in the True Democrat (Paulding, MS newspaper) in 1846, he died in ill health on 25 Oct 1846 on his plantation and was buried there in the family plot.

His will was probated on 21 Sep 1852 by wife Louisa A. (who had since married Samuel Rowell) in the Probate Court of Judge G. W. Ryan.

Before 1850 most of the written documents had the name spelled as REED. Once in Mississippi it was usually spelled REID.
