She was born on July 14, 1936, in Joplin, the daughter of Gaylon and Reatha Bowers Hammond. Fran was a lifelong resident of Joplin, working for the United States Postal Service as a rural mail carrier, for 22 years, retiring in 1996.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Darlene Phillips.
Survivors include a brother, Spurgeon Patton, of Florida; two sons, Russell Hay and Randy Hay; two daughters, Lori Hay-Matejcek and Gera Irwin; eight grandchildren, Natalie Hamilton, Angela, GaLynn and Vincent Hay, Jennifer and Kimberly Matejcek, Brant Owens and Tevon Reed; four great-grandchildren, Anika and Josiah Hay, Caitlin Boyd and Madison Carmen, all of Joplin; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 2 pm Monday, Nov. 10, at the Ozark Memorial Cemetery with Chaplin Steve Cooper officiating.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory.
