Floyd Uitermarkt, son of Gerrit and Elizabeth Verros Uitermarkt, was born on June 12, 1913, near Otley, Iowa.

Floyd attended country school through the 8 th grade while helping on the farm. He lived near Otley until 1927 when his family moved to a farm near Harvey. Floyd continued to farm after the death of his father and brother.

On February 10, 1953 Floyd was united in marriage with Margaret De Hamer at the Third Reformed Church parsonage. To this union two children were born:Dennis and Karen. They continued to farm the home place until moving into Pella in December, 1976. Floyd worked at Grandia Meat Processing for a short time. He and Margaret enjoyed taking several bus trips around the United States. Margaret passed away June 11, 1986 but Floyd continued to live at their home at 307 Prairie Street. He moved to Pella Long Term Care Unit in October of 2005.

Floyd made profession of faith at an early age at the Third Reformed Church of Pella and continued to be a life-long member. He also was a member of the Farm Bureau, the Pella Farmer’s Co-op and the Mississippi Valley Milk Producers.

Floyd’s greatest joy was farming and his family. He also found pleasure in mowing his yard almost daily, picking up leaves and dandelions by hand, growing tomatoes, price comparison shopping at the grocery stores, and his long walks around Pella.

He passed away on the evening of Wednesday, January 31, 2007, at the Pella Hospice Comfort House at the age of ninety-three years.

Those left to cherish his memory are his children and their families; and three sisters: Julia Kamerick, Gertrude Van Den Heuvel, and Leona Ver Meer all of Pella.

Preceding him in death were: his wife, Margaret; his parents; one brother, Matt Uitermarkt; and two sisters, Dorothy Van Essen and Harriet De Penning.
