Composer. A graduate of the University of Utah, he relocated to California and was a musical director for a local Los Angeles radio station. In 1932, Walt Disney Studios hired him as arranger and scorer for the "Silly Symphonies" cartoon series. At the studio he composed and was responsible for such Disney-film tunes as "I'm Wishing," "Whistle While You Work," "Heigh Ho" and "Some Day My Prince Will Come." Disney retained his services for the cartoon feature, "Pinocchio" and he won an Academy Award for composing the song "When You Wish Upon a Star" in 1940.
