Cathy Marie Sparks, age 61 of Squire, WV died Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, NC. She was born August 27, 1953 at Squire, WV and was a daughter of the late Frank C. and Vera Smith Fowler. She was a member of the 1971 graduating class of Big Creek High School. Cathy loved life and was very active in her community; she volunteered at the House of Hope Food Bank, was a Football Booster, was a member of the PTO, and she belonged to the Ellison Rebekah Lodge #90 in Squire, WV. Cathy had a passion for playing BINGO. She was of the Christian faith and attended the Salvation Praise Center in the Riverjack section of North Tazewell, VA.
Those left to cherish her memories include her husband of forty-three years, Robert L. Sparks; three daughters, Leslie Marie Cheatham and husband, Rodney of Appomattox, VA, Beverly Anne Sparks and husband, Anthony of Squire, WV and Angela Christine Sparks of the home; two sisters, Joyce Shumate and husband, Richard and Jenny Blankenship and husband, David both of Bluefield, VA; two brothers, Charles Fowler and wife, Betty of Squire, WV and Roger Fowler of Bluewell, WV; five grandchildren, Robin and Ashlee Evans, James Robert “Jim-Bob” Sparks, Eric Cheatham and Haleigh Sparks; several nieces, nephews, other family members and friends also survive.
Funeral services for Cathy Marie Sparks will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 8, 2014 at the Hurst – Scott Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell, VA with the Rev. Wade Quesenberry and the Rev. George Masterson officiating. The members of Rebekah Lodge District #29 will conduct the Rebekah service. Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA. Friends and family will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 – 9 p.m. Friday, November 7, 2014.
In addition to floral expressions, the family request memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital: 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
