Mary was born on October 4, 1938 in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of Jack Upton and Catherine (Oswald) Upton.
Anyone that knew Mary knew that she was a “take charge” kind of person. That was a beneficial attribute when she and her late husband Glenn had an integral role in starting the Elks Lodge in Laurie. She kept a close eye on her neighborhood and this led to her being called “The Sherriff”; a title that she gladly accepted. All joking aside, her neighbors were glad to have someone to watch over things so well.
She is preceded in death by her parents, and by her husband Glenn.
Mary is survived by her daughter; Kathy Miller and her husband Nick of Sunrise Beach, and by one grandson; Seth Miller of Sunrise Beach.
A private burial will take place at a later time.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Laurie.
