Mr. James H. Abernathy, age 87, of Woodstock Road, Acworth, passed away Monday, November 3, 2014 at Kennestone Hospital.

He was born in Cherokee County, July 22, 1927, son of the late Alton J. Abernathy and Jewell Hardin Abernathy. He was a lifelong member of New Bethel Baptist Church in Cherokee County and the Adairsville Masonic Lodge No. 168 for over fifty years. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife and mother of his children, Beatrice Sutton Abernathy; son, Bobby Abernathy.

Survivors include his wife, Bobbie Jean Abernathy of Acworth; daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Randy Robinson of Adairsville; daughter-in-law, Marie Abernathy of Cartersville; 6 grandchildren, Jamie (Stewart) Mealer, Lance Robinson, Robby (Cathy) Abernathy, Christy Abernathy, Stefanie Abernathy, and Seth (Hope) Morton; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Wayne (Mary) Abernathy of Adairsville and nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 6, 2014 at 2:00 PM from the chapel of Barton Funeral Home with Rev. Gary Hibberts officiating. Interment will follow in the Eastview cemetery, Adairsville. Pallbearers will be Robby Abernathy, Lance Robinson, Seth Morton, Stewart Mealer, Joe Bryan, and Ronnie Futral. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Greenhaw, Lee Lairsey, and Larry Bennett.

The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Barton Funeral Home.
