Betty K. Alecksen age 80, a Manitowoc resident, died peacefully and joined her Lord on Thursday, November 6, 2014 at Shady Lane Nursing Care Center surrounded by the love of her family.

The former Betty Wellner was born on July 16, 1934 in Manitowoc, daughter of the late Edgar and Myrtle (Fraser) Wellner. She was a 1952 graduate of Manitowoc Lincoln High School. Betty graduated from Manitowoc County Normal and also graduated Summa Cum Laude from Silver Lake College with a degree in Elementary Education. Betty taught at St. Mary's Catholic Grade School and was a longtime substitute teacher with the Manitowoc Public School System. On April 12, 1958 Betty was married to Richard Alecksen at the First Lutheran Church Chapel in Manitowoc. She was a member of First Lutheran Church, First Lutheran Altar Guild, Adult Choir and the Snip & Sew Quilters. Betty visited many shut-ins of First Lutheran Church with communion. She was active in the past with the Manitowoc Senior Center and Conservation Education Inc. Betty was a prolific letter and note writer to her family and friends.

Survivors include her husband: Richard Alecksen, Manitowoc; one daughter and son-in-law: April (Terry) Miller, Holmen; one son: Tove Alecksen, Manitowoc; one daughter-in-law: Doria Alecksen, Eatonton, GA; 3 grandchildren: Jaime Radtke, New London; Katie (Terry) Stevenson, Manitowoc; Charles Alecksen, Eatonton, GA; one great-granddaughter: Hailey Radtke, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends survive. She was preceded in death by her parents: Edgar and Myrtle Wellner; one son: Lars Alecksen; one granddaughter: Army Spc. Erica Alecksen-Bailey, killed in action in Afghanistan in 2012; one sister and brother-in-law: Carol (Chuck) Holsen.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at First Lutheran Church Chapel, 521 North 8th St., Manitowoc. The Rev. Roald Harswick will officiate with burial of her cremated remains at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. The Reinbold & Pfeffer Family Funeral Home of Manitowoc is assisting the family with funeral arrangements. Online condolences may be expressed at www.jensreinboldandpfeffer.com In lieu of flowers memorial donations would be appreciated for First Lutheran Church unrestricted memorial fund, First Lutheran's Altar Guild, First Lutheran's Organ Fund, Hope House of Manitowoc County or Peter's Pantry.
