Shannon Rene Zeman Abel, 39, of La Crosse, died as a result of a one car accident on Saturday, July 9, 2005, in the town of Jefferson at rural Viroqua.

She was born in Oakland, Calif., on Jan. 8, 1966, to Richard "Rick" and Jeanne (Terwilliger) Zeman. As a young girl she was involved with Girl Scouts, enjoyed family outings and being with friends. Shannon then graduated from Central High School in La Crosse in 1984 where she had been active in Wisconsin DECA, a marketing program. She served as vice-president of District One during her senior year. Shannon then became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She attended BYU for two years at Salt Lake City, Utah.

On May 27, 1988, she married Kenneth C. Abel at the Salt Lake Temple. They lived in Salt Lake City and were later divorced. She had been a member of Battle Creek 2nd and 3rd wards in Pleasant Grove, Utah. She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Some of her callings included serving in the primary, the young women's organization, the relief society and she even produced a ward newsletter. Shannon also taught in the primary level and was known to stop at nothing to provide many visual aids and handouts to teach them the beautiful gospel message. She was a caring neighbor and was a devoted mother. Shannon moved to Vernon County in October 2004 and was employed at Wal-Mart in Viroqua. She had just recently moved to La Crosse.

Shannon is survived by one daughter, Megan Ardelle Abel; and one son, Mitchell Kenneth Abel, both of Pleasant Grove, Utah; her mother, Jeanne (Richard) Fredrickson of Viroqua; her father, Richard "Rick" Zeman of La Crosse; six sisters, Vicki Fredrickson, Rita Fredrickson, both of Viroqua, Cheryl Fredrickson of Westby, Jeannie (Mike) Henry of Viroqua, Laurie (Ray) Raynes of Viola, Wis., Colette (Steven) Gelvin of Hutchinson, Kansas; one brother, Rick Fredrickson of Westby, other relatives and many friends.
