John Wesley Dillinger, 78, passed away Saturday, November 1, 2014 at Duke Raleigh Hospital.

He was born October 5, 1936 in Johnson City, TN to the late John Wesley Dillinger and Ruth Edwards Dillinger.

John was a retired Captain with the US Marine Corps with 20 years of service. After retirement from the Marine Corps, John continued his careers and retired from Colonial Stores, Big Star, and Carolina Trailways. At the time of his death, he was safety director for his son's company – Keystone Transport. John held a second degree black belt in taekwondo. He was a certified instructor, competed in many tournaments, and was a top ten competitor for the world championship.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, November 8, 2014 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service Chapel with military honors. The family will receive relatives and friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, Friday, November 7, 2014 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale, NC 27545. A private inurnment service will be held at a later date.

John is survived by his wife: Juanita McDonald Dillinger; son: John Robert Dillinger (Karen) of Raleigh; daughters: Cherlynn Hoover (James) and Ilona Dillinger-McHale (Ed) all of Knightdale; grandchildren: Katie Ellis (Tim), Megan and Lauren Dillinger, James and Scarlett Hoover, Kate and Michael McHale; and his sister: Jane Grimm (Dave) of Dalton, OH.
