A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am Friday, November 7, 2014, at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, St. Matthews. The family will receive friends after the service.

Raymond was born February 13, 1925, in Belmont, North Carolina, a son of the late Robert L and Dolly Stradly Carson. Dr. Carson was a graduate of Brevard College, Duke University, and Florida State University. He served as pastors of Methodist Churches in Virginia before going into college administration. He served as Dean, Vice-president, and President of Junior Colleges in Virginia, North Carolina, Delaware and South Carolina. He retired from the State Office of Technical Education System of South Carolina. He served 20 years as a Chaplain in the United States Army Reserves.

Ray is survived by a daughter, Mary Jo Wilder of Zebulon, NC; a daughter-in-law, Terry Carson of Columbia, SC; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mabel Davis, Bobbie Denny, Nancy Carson, and Kay Pitts; and former son-in-law, Bill Wilder. He was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Ruth Sullivan Carson; son, Walter Carson; and grandson, Will Carson.
