Shirley E. Mathews, 80, passed away on Nov. 2, 2014, at Flagler Hospital. Born in Olney, Md., she has been a resident of St. Augustine since 1964. Shirley served as a church pianist and organist in St. Augustine for over 30 years. She retired from Florida East Coast Railway after 22 years.
Shirley was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and a faithful member of Crescent Beach Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Parker and Viola Oland and son, Kyle Mathews.
Shirley is survived by her husband of 48 years, John Mathews; son, Kevin Sheckels; daughter, Kelli (Dain) Bufe; three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held at Crescent Beach Baptist Church, 10 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 6, 2014. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. with a graveside concluding at Craig Memorial Park.
