Son of the late George and Mary Monroe. He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Corine Henderson Monroe; sisters, Ivonia Johnson and Elizabeth Drakeford; brothers, George, William and James Monroe; and one great grandson, Ke'Mani Logan.

Educated in the Albemarle County School system, he served in the United States Army from 1953 until 1961. He gave his life to the Lord at an early age and was a member of the Middle Oak Baptist Church in Blenheim, Virginia, where he served as Deacon, Trustee and sang on the choir until his health failed. He was employed at Frank Ix and Sons for 28 years.

He was loved by everyone that knew him and would help anyone. In his spare time he loved to go fishing and hunting and spending time with his special group of friends that would meet at McDonald's.

He leaves to cherish his memory one sister, Harriett Thompson; two sons, Vincent Monroe and Carl Monroe; five daughters, Pearl Harris, Gladys Saylor, Gwendolyn Gray, Thomasena Monroe, and Renee Magruder; 15 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. He also leaves a special devoted friend, Doris Banks and her children; six sister-in-laws, nine brother-in-laws and a host of other relatives and friends.

A funeral service was held Saturday, November 8, 2014, at Middle Oak Baptist Church, Blenheim, Virginia.
