Joy Wanda (Hastings) Cook was born January 10, 1925, in Chickasha, the daughter of Amos E. Hastings and Rena M. (Stephens) Hastings. She left this earth for her heavenly home on November 4, 2014 from her home in Chickasha. Joy was 89 years young.

A graduate of Amber High School, Joy served 41 years as 1st Deputy County Assessor for Grady County, retiring December 15, 1989. She has spent the last 25 years pursuing her passions of gardening, cooking and hosting family gatherings. She was a member of the First Christian Church, where she was a member of the Disciples Women’s Fellowship.

Joy married Vernon S. Cook of Amber, on July 3, 1947 in Chickasha.

Mrs. Cook was preceded in death by her husband Vernon; both parents; sisters, Prebble McCalla, LaVon Hastings, and Fern Tims; brother, J.W. Hastings.

Those staying behind and celebrating the life of this precious woman are her best kitty friend, Bow Tie; her daughter, Sally Cook and partner Linda Allen of Norman; son, Greg Cook and wife Paula of Norman; grandson, Christopher Cook and wife Dana and great granddaughter Jaycee of Duke, OK; grandson, Nathan Cook and wife Becky and great grandkids Natalie, Sutton, and Beckett of Wilmington N.C.; sister-in-law, Mickey Buchanan and brother-in-law, Ed Cook and wife Hazel and their families; nieces and nephews and their families; plus a whole host of very special friends.

Funeral services for Joy W. (Hastings) Cook, will be held 2:00 PM, Saturday, November 8, 2014 at the First Christian Church, Chickasha with Reverend Michael Oberlender officiating. Joy will be laid to rest next to her husband at the Amber Cemetery with services under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
