Ed was born in Emerson, Neb., on Dec. 11, 1917, to Harve Heitzman and May Eckerman Heitzman, the youngest of three children.
He came to Jerome in 1937 and worked for the Weigle family, where he met Marguerite Moss. They were married in 1940 and worked at Solar Aircraft in San Diego during the war until 1945, when they moved back to Jerome.
Ed and Rete farmed southwest of Jerome until the mid '50s, when he started buying and selling potatoes which grew into a local processing plant, Heitzman Produce. They continued working the business until they semi-retired when their son, Mike, joined them.
He enjoyed bowling, golfing and playing cards in the early years, where he associated with many lifelong friends. On any given night where there was a baseball game, you would find him and Rete there supporting their favorite team, the Renegades. They loved to travel and sightsee, where they visited friends and family along the way. Dad loved to visit and share his experiences and stories with a dose of humor and flare. He looked forward to the many day trips his son, Jon, and he took in the last 10 years. He sold his home of 47 years and moved to Bridgeview Estates in May of 2005, where he once again enjoyed having his own personal chef. There he quickly made friends with the staff and residents and once again enjoyed having someone cook for him.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Rete, in 1996.
Ed is survived by two sons, Jon (Nancy) Heitzman of Twin Falls and Michael Heitzman of Jerome; and three daughters, Sharon (Chuck) Haskins of Boise, Reta (Dick) Oyler of Boise and Vicki (Kent) White of St. George Utah; 22 grandchildren; and 51 great-grandchildren.
