Richard Carr Herndon, 95, went to his heavenly home on Wednesday, December 7, 2011. He was a dedicated Christian and a devoted and loving husband of Ann Adkerson Herndon for seventy-four years. He loved his church, Hopewell United Methodist Church, and enjoyed participating in all its activities, especially mission trips to Mexico to help build churches and clinics. He served his church as Sunday school superintendent for thirty years.

Born April 1, 1916 in the Swansonville community of Pittsylvania County, he was the son of the late George Cabell Herndon and the late Annie Elliott Herndon.

Richard is survived by his wife, Ann Adkerson Herndon, a daughter, Annette H. Parrish; a grandson; 4 grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Pearl, Myrtle, Annie, Patsy and Elsie and his brothers, Harvey, Sam and Posey.

Interment will follow in Highland Burial Park, Danville.
