Flora Gertrude Marks was born at Alton, Iowa on December 27, 1906, the daughter of Ben and Hannah Marks. When she was five years old the family came to South Dakota in 1911 and located on a farm southwest of Lennox, near Hurley.
On December 5, 1923 she was united in marriage to Lester T. Hammerstrom at Lennox and to this union 5 children were born. For 40 years the couple farmed in the Chancellor area and then took up their residence in Lennox. Here the couple lived for a few years and then moved to a farm near Chancellor. There they lived until last fall when they again took up their residence in Lennox.
Mrs. Hammerstrom was an active and faithful member of the First English Lutheran Church and tha ALCW, and was a member of the Chancellor Legion Auxiliary.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Esther Hammerstrom, one grandson; and one son-in-law.
Deceased is survived by her widower; three sons, Earl of Wall, Dale of Tea, and Gene of Chancellor; two daughters, Mrs. Doris Vietor of Chancellor,and Mrs. C.E."Bob" (Irene) Harms of Sioux Falls; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs Marie Jibben of Lake Preston and Mrs. Henry F. (Maude) Kock of Lennox
