Joseph was born in the village of Shakespeare, Perth County in 1855 to parents Francois "Joseph" Dietrich (1820-1880) and Regina Maier (1834-1923).

He married Susannah Martz on October 31, 1882 in St. Agatha, Wilmot Twp; Marriage Register #011716.

They raised 8 known children in Ontario.
1. Edward Jacob Dietrich 1883-1966.
2. Henry "Harry" J. Dietrich 1884-1965.
3. Peter "Elroy" Dietrich 1885-1924.
4. Joseph Dietrich 1887-1893.
5. Adeline Mary Dietrich (Weiss) 1889-1937.
6. Conrad "Eugene" John Dietrich 1891-1972.
7. Victor Peter Dietrich 1896-1925.
8. Idella Dietrich (MacDonnell) 1903-1986.

Joseph Dietrich Dies In South Easthope

Joseph Dietrich died on Tuesday morning at the home of his son, Edward Dietrich, lot 3, concession 21, South Easthope. He was in his 87th year, born in South Easthope on November 4, 1856, a son of the late Joseph Dietrich and Regina Mayers. For many years the departed man farmed in South Easthope. Twenty-one years ago he retired and lived for a time in Kitchener, later returning to South Easthope, to live with his son.

The deceased had been ill for several years. Over two years ago he suffered a stroke and had since been confined to bed. His wife died 11 years ago.

Surviving are three sons, Edward, South Easthope, Harry and Eugene, Kitchener, one daughter, Idella, Mrs. Joseph McDonald of Kitchener, six sisters, Mrs. Daniel Yausie, Tavistock, Mrs. Henry Petrie, South Easthope, Mrs. John Petrie, Stratford, Mrs. Jacob Hergott, Kitchener, Mrs. Jac. Mertz of Burlington, Mrs. Simon Bundscho, South Easthope, 13 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Three sons, Elroy, Joseph and Victor and one daughter, Mrs. Chas. Weiss, predeceased. Two sisters also predeceased him.

The late Mr. Dietrich was a member of the Roman Catholic Church, New Hamburg, where the funeral service will be held this Friday morning at 10 o'clock followed by interment in Mount Hope Cemetery, Kitchener.
