Mr. Barnes began working at the National Zoological Park, D.C. in 1898 as a laborer and made animal keeper in 1919. He retired as a marketing representative, 43 years later.
During the 30’s he made rounds of city markets and wholesale grocers in the Zoo’s supply wagon to collect food for the animals.
