Effie Lorania Foutz was the first child of Joseph Lehi Foutz Jr. and Lorania Nelson. Her parents lived at a little Hopi Village named "Moenkopi" near Tuba City, Coconino County, Arizona, when she was born. After the third child, Price William was born, the family moved to Tuba City, which was a larger Mormon settlement. Effie's father had a severe sun stroke while tending a herd of sheep out on the desert. Effie's mother thought her husband had gone insane and was needing one on one care. Unable to earn any money to feed her little family she sent Joseph to a hospital in Phoenix, Arizona. The U.S. government was pressing the people to sell their property and the people took what little the government offered them. Tuba City and the whole area was made into the Navajo Indian Reservation. Lorania sold her property and took her family to the Mormon Colonies in Mexico where her Nelson family was. Effie at the age of 22 years married a young man by the name of James Morgan Pryde on the 7 Jul 1901, in Colonia Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico. Effie was James' third wife. James and Effie had four children in Colonia Dubian, Chihuahua, Mexico, In 1912, the Mexican Revolution started and the LDS people were chased out of the colonies in Mexico by Poncho Villa. The Pryde's settled in Gridley, Butte County, California, on a farm. James and Effie had four more children and one stillborn while living in Gridley. Her husband, James Morgan died on the 11 Apr 1949, at Gridley, California. Effie died on the 31 Mar 1953, at Gridley, California, and buried at Gridley.
