Patricia Metcalf Crum died Sunday, November 2, 2014, at Fleet Landing following the effects of a stroke. She was a homemaker, accomplished watercolor artist, horticultural expert and devoted mother to her children. Pat was born in Plevna, Kansas in 1925. She graduated valedictorian of her high school class and was always a strikingly beautiful woman. In April 1945 she met a handsome Navy lieutenant, Harold Crum, who was a Navy pilot stationed in Hutchinson, Kansas; they immediately fell in love and in six weeks were married. Following discharge from the Navy, Harold, a graduate of TriState College, Angola, Indiana, began his career as a self-employed general contractor and developer of Arlington and Mayport in the 1950s. During that time, Pat's great joy was her family and involvement in the community; she was a room mother; Sunday School teacher; member of the Arlington Junior Women's Club, including walking as a runway model for their charity fashion shows and organizer for the charity ball and the Follies; board member of the Women's Club of Jacksonville; a board member of the Monterey Homeowners Association and the Bamboo Garden Club. Pat became a Master Gardener, certified flower show judge and editor of the annual directory for the Florida Federation of Garden Clubs. On Harold's retirement, they moved their residence to Fleet Landing in Atlantic Beach, Florida. Pat is predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Harold H. Crum. She is survived by her daughter, Dr. Dianne Taylor (Robert) of Jacksonville, Florida; her son, Dr. Harold H. Crum, III, (Angie), of Seal Beach, California; four grandchildren, Trisha Dawood Bowles (Houston); Peter Dawood; Megan Crum, and Harold H. Crum, IV; and two great-granddaughters, Lee Elizabeth Bowles and Karson Dianne Bowles. A service to celebrate her life will be on Wednesday, November 5, at 1:30 p.m. at Windward Commons, Fleet Landing, Atlantic Beach with a private interment at Jacksonville National Cemetery.
