Betty Pilgrim McNeill, 86, of Harrisonburg, Virginia, passed away Monday, November 3, 2014, in Harrisonburg. She was born October 18, 1928, in Winchester, Virginia, and was the daughter of the late Roy C. and Zula Frances Miley Pilgrim.

Mrs. McNeill graduated from high school in Wardensville, W.Va., and from Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, W.Va. She taught biology in Berkley, Grant and Hardy counties in West Virginia and McLean High School in McLean, Va.

She was a former member of the Moorefield Presbyterian Church, where she taught the Women’s Bible Class. Most recently, she was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Harrisonburg. She was a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Thomas B. McNeill Sr. of Harrisonburg; one son, Thomas B. McNeill Jr. and wife, Nancy, and grandson, Adam C. McNeill of Charlotte, N.C.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, November 6, 2014, at Meredith Chapel in the Sunnyside Retirement Community, Harrisonburg, with the Rev. Paul O’Gorek officiating. A graveside service will follow at 2 p.m. Thursday at Olivet Cemetery, Moorefield, W.Va.

Memorials may be directed to the Sunnyside Fellowship Fund, 3935 Sunnyside Drive, Suite A, Harrisonburg, VA 22801. Condolences, shared memories and photos may be left on Mrs. McNeill’s Tribute Wall at www.fraleyfuneralhome.com.
