Vernon G. Baehr, 94, of Thorp, died on January 5, 2012, at the Stanley Hospital. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Church in Thorp on Saturday, January 14, at 10:30 a.m., with visitation from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service.

Vernon was born on September 22, 1917, to George and Alma Baehr. He married Anita Petrulis on August 24, 1949. They had six children. He farmed most of his life until he retired in 1983. He then continued to help his son, David, on the farm, driving tractors until 2007 when his health started to decline at the age of 90.

Vernon was an active member of the St. Bernard-St. Hedwig parish. He enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, playing cards, taking drives through the Perkinstown area and visiting with his family and friends.

Vernon is survived by his loving wife, Anita, of Thorp; five children: Linda of Antioch, CA, Peter of Fond du Lac, Audrey (Chuck Froelich) of Watertown, David (Gayle) of Withee and Evie (Eric Pongratz) of Sun Prairie; nine grandchildren: Kevin, Diane, Keith, Ann, Whitney, Weston and Aselyn Baehr, and Joey and Scott Pongratz; along with three great-grandchildren: Madison and Perry Baehr, and Hans Wendt. Vernon was recently preceded in death by his son, Calvin (Cheryl) Baehr.
