Obituary

Ralph F. Gambone, age 90 of Annapolis, Maryland died unexpectedly on November 2, 2014.

A resident of Annapolis for more than 40 years, Mr. Gambone was born in Norristown, PA to the late Salvatore Gambone and Pasqualina Volpe and graduated from Allentown HS in 1942.

In 1943 Ralph enlisted in the US Navy and went to boot camp in Sampson, NY. From there he went on to the Navy School of Music in Washington DC then on to Pearl Harbor.

In the late 40’s until 1973 he served with the Naval Academy Band, Unit Band 43 as a trumpeter and continued on as Conductor and musical arranger. In 1973 he joined the Navy Band of Washington, DC until his retirement in 1975 as Master Chief Petty Officer.

A member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Fleet Reserve, Ralph enjoyed his family and his love for music. In addition to the trumpet he also played the clarinet. In his 40’s he began jogging and would continue well into his 70’s frequently jogging around town with his son. He enjoyed fishing and bowling but was best known for always being behind the lens of his movie camera always filming family and friends.

In October 1945 Ralph married his high school sweetheart Isabel Gambone. In addition to his wife, Ralph is survived by a son; Ralph M. Gambone of Arnold, a daughter Joanne Daly of Annapolis, MD, his sister; Norma Carfagno of Cocoa Beach, Fl. along with grandchildren Michael Gambone and Angela Gambone Chaney. He is also survived by 2 great grandchildren; Karson Chaney and Guiliana Gambone. He was predeceased by 2 sisters; Lena Cleveland and Aida Gambone

Friends may call on Wednesday, November 5 from 6-8 p.m. at John M. Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke of Gloucester Street, Annapolis, MD 21401 and on Thurday, from 10-11:00 a.m. where services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Interment Lakemont Memorial Gardens, Davidsonville, Maryland.
