George H. Barnett, 76, of Laurel, died suddenly on Sunday, November 2, 2014, at South Central Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, November 6, 2014, at Memory Chapel, with burial to follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Jones County. Rev. Drew Blanton will officiate.

He is survived by his best friend and wife, Nancy; two daughters, Twila Coleman (David) and Teresa Pryor of Laurel; grandchildren, Josh Dykes, Christopher, Connor and Brittani Coleman, Lona Thornton, and Kate Herrington, all of Laurel, and Nicky Chauvin of Louisiana, brother, Roy Barnett (Jean); sister, Loretta Douglas (Carlos) of Alabama; and a host of nieces and nephews. He is also survived by a very special little baby girl, “Lucy”.

George served four years in the Navy. He retired from Laurel Fire Department after 20 years of service as assistant fire chief. He owned and operated Barnett Wrecker Service. George was an avid hunter and music lover. He owned the country band “The Odds”.

Pallbearers will be Jose Montesdeoca, Tony Myrick, Greg Barnett, Brian Ray Holifield, Kathy Tadlock, and Clay Holifield.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Thursday, at Memory Chapel which is in charge of the arrangements.
